Hi Colin, I think that they intend that ground symbol to mean local, PCB reference, not earth ground, although they ARE using an earth ground symbol, which is indeed misleading. Perhaps even worse, it would work if you connected earth ground instead of neutral to that node, but it would then create a shock hazard in some cases.
