It is true that we all change direction from time to time, especially the young. However, programming doesn't require a large financial investment. I spent more on my daughter's bike than on my Mikro C compiler. Even if the enterprise is abandoned in a year or two worthwhile lessons will have been learned. He'll never find out if he doesn't give it a try.
