Hi, years ago I made a simple controller for the rudder in a sail model boat. The encoder was simply one wheel of a mouse (old type with wheel and led) and I entered directly on RA0-RA1 of a Pic16F628a, how much it was precise I don't know but it runs. Now I am out of home for few days, if you want I can look for the code later.
