It slowly corrodes over time - I have used it myself as a conductor. You could probably remove the flux by washing in Isopropanol. You can also buy copper braid - either tinned or un-tinned, and high strand count cable (see, for example, New England Wire Technologies or Alpha Wire's Dearborn cable.
