This was used for schematic capture...and I used it for a few years  before=
 we updated to OrCad.  I think we called it Cadol....but its been a few yea=
rs back.  One of our groups also spawned ProE I believe as well...they sold=
 it off as it was not part of the core business

I also started the PCB world in red/blue tape, then moved to Smartwork usin=
g a Hercules mono card, and then to OrCad on DOS.  The PCB side did have th=
e gerber drivers...I just sent the files to the board shop at that point an=
d they sent back the film with the boards.

I find claims that Stanford's SUDS ("Stanford University Design/Drawing Sys=
tem) was the "first interactive CAD system for electronics/computer design"=
, and there are articles on it dating back to 1974 or so.  SUDS was used to=
 design the DEC KL10 (1975), Foonly F1, The Livermore S1 supercomputer, Ear=
ly SUN boards (~1982), early cisco boards (~1989), and I don't know what el=
se.  All you needed was your own DEC PDP10 mainframe and a suitable graphic=
s terminal.

Don't forget that a "state of the art" PC circa 1989 was a 386 with 4Mbyte =
of memory and an EGA display.
