Errata to my own posting: 32768kHz should be 32.768kHz (watch crystal). Also: 74HC(T)xxx xtal oscillators do work fine with Xtal >=3D 3.57MHz, but, much below that, no worky, uncontrolled oscillation at >10MHz instead. I di= d not try 455kHz ceramic filters and the like. The real problem is the lack o= f any warning in the datasheets of 74HC(T) parts. What one does find, is a requirement for minimal switching time for such parts, and that to be well under 10usec afair. So they do know about something there, alas, oscillators have to be slow when sine. Or not? I wonder if configuring the 74HCT4060's oscillator section as a Schmitt oscillator controlled by a 32768Hz xtal leads to results. The nice people a= t NXP who published the datasheet of said part simply seem to have copied the textbook xtal circuit using the inverter gate with feedback 'technology', i= n Pierce configuration. That is the one which does not work with 32768Hz xtal= s...
