My wife plays a very key role in her job - capable old hand with much
experience amongst many much younger people.

She (late 2002):  I want to take 9 weeks off for a world tour in mid 2003.

They: Sorry can't be done. Too long. Unable to be accommodated. Sorry ...

She But I've been here 20 years!

They: Sorry can't be done. Too long. Unable to be accommodated. Sorry ...

She: That's a shame. I'll have to resign.

They: What dates will you be away?

A glorious 9 weeks it was :-).
