In the US vacation time is often specified in a union contract and is often
dependent on longevity in the job or union. In nearly all non-union cases,
possibly with the exception of highly compensated employees, vacation earne=

is a function of time working for the company, usually starting at two (or
even one) weeks and going up to as much as five or six weeks after many
years of service.
