>> Or do you put the battery pack on the floor and have a >> long ass cord so its not cordless? Some years ago I tried a 12V drill with a 7AH 12V SLA brick. The 'brick' looks big and clunky and feels 'rather heavy' when hefted in the hand. When taped on the drill in place of the defunct NiCd battery back it was amazingly usable. Weight was not excessive (to my surprise), drill had a nice "heft" to it and size was entirely acceptable in use. I was agreeably surprised. I didn't pursue that use but feel that it was an entirely viable solution in that case. So eg the 3 x 6V SLA batteries that were suggested my prove to be a very good solution. FWIW, to get about the same capacity from LiIon using 18650 cells (3.6V nominal, 2Ah say) would take about 4S3P =3D 12 cells, 12 to 14V, 6Ah.
