Hi Further notes on silver. Medical instruments, probes, cupping bowls, cauterizing irons and such were made out of silver even though germ theory was far in the future. It was noted then that patients were less injured by the procedures than when poked about with an ivory stick or puking into a porcelain bowl. Also, on a more relevant note, I seemed to remember that plated silver coatings were rather porous unless post treatment operations were performed. It was stated that silver plating copper wire for high frequency improvements or plating copper screening was not as effective as it should be given the higher conductivity of silver enhancing the skin effect of HF currents. Something to do with the crystal structure of plated silver compared with bulk silver.
