This thread starts to remind me of the joke with how many engineers it take= s to change a lightbulb. None, the janitor will do it with his long ladder while= the engineers fight it out. Email addresses are being harvested all the time. The lowest hanging fruit = will be harvested first. In the general context, things which do not make it too= easy for harvesters are called 'state of the art' measures. Slight obfuscation o= f email addresses as seen on screen by people or bots in mailing lists is and= has been such a state of the art measure for at least 15 years on the internet. All I, and likely many other, would like, is this type of state of the art slight obfuscation which prevents, or is believed to prevent, my, and other people's email addresses from being the lowest hanging fruit alluded to. Th= ere is no point in having an argument about it. Please keep in mind that I started looking for new 'leaks' from me or from others I know, concerning my email address on yahoo. This I did as a conseq= uence of a jump in spam volume in the last fe weeks, in despite of yahoo's pretty= good spam filter. The only change I could see in recent weeks was the gmane.org obfuscation issue, as I believe it used to be on, and is now, obviously, of= f. So, if it would be possible to have that low hanging fruit raised a bit by asking Lars to turn on obfuscation, I would see it as a good deed on the si= de of the piclist list admins. As I would see it as a good deed to use similar me= ans to persuade other archives to use whatever it is they use to make their pri= ze fruit not too easy to pick. In short, this is not about privacy, it is about a reasonable expectation o= f technical competence and of state of the art technology, to avoid any more annoyance than is absolutely necessary. It is also normal for list members = who notice this kind of problem to notify the admins in a properly marked threa= d, as this one is. I am done with the subject.
