Hi all, The advice so far on this thread has been great, so thank you all for that! As mentioned previously, connecting cables should have their shields grounded at only one side. This makes sense in my head, but I have a question. One of the things connecting to my main box will be a small remote pendant. The cable will be short (say, under 3 feet). Communication will be over RS485, and the cable will also carry power to the pendant. Since the pendant is only connected to the main box and nothing else, should the shield on that cable be grounded on both sides? Or in this case will it make no difference either way? Thanks!
