> Possibly the best resistor you can have is a spiral air wound coil > of Nichrome or other resistance wire I have a couple of 1kW heater elements that come in useful. Or did, I haven't used the wire for a little while. From memory the elements are 70 ohms and have about 4.5m of spiral-wound wire, or around 65mm per ohm. 100-ish turns of 13mm diameter implies about 10W per 40mm (at red heat), although the resistance will be lower at that temperature. I think heater wire is fairly consistent quality as there are usually no local hot spots. In the past I've used pieces, sometimes in parallel, as high-current sense resistors, dummy loads, and also as the 'blade' in a polystyrene foam cutter, together with a PSU and LM350 Joe --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
