Subject: [EE] Touch Screen Modules Previously we've made a few control panels that use a small (2x8) LCD and 4= tact switches. They work fine and are mounted into a horizontal light swi= tch plate, but don't really look all that attractive and are fiddly to asse= mble. We've now been asked to quote on making something functionally similar, but= with a touch screen. This will do away with the current buttons and add t= he possibility of more functions with soft keys. I can see two ways of going with this. 1) An off-the-shelf controller like the CuTOUCH panels (http://www.comfiletech.com/ct1721c.aspx) that we've used for more industri= al applications. They are however a little expensive, fairly bulky and loo= k out of place in a home or office situation. 2) Some sort of LCD / touch screen module with either an integrated bezel o= r can be mounted without too much hassle. Maybe a PIC based board would pi= ggy back onto the LCD. As these are usually only required in small quantity (anywhere from 1 to 20 at a time), I'd rather just use something that I can program in a HLL (B= asic, C, etc) and not fiddle around with all the low level graphics and tou= ch stuff. It doesn't have to be a $50 solution. Screen size of a few inches diagonal= would do. If it could fit into a standard Aussie light switch plate that = would be ideal in some ways, as others can install the mounting during buil= ding construction.
