I don't have a dog in this fight (don't read the magazine), but I might remark that AFAIUI, many print magazines do NOT make money on subscription fees- rather they cover printing and distribution (variable costs). The money they make is from advertisers. That magazine (EPE) appears to hav= e numerous advertisers. It would seem logical that if the distribution fees were close enough to zero that the magazine could (perhaps _should_) be free. They also need a way to measure "real" circulation, but that doesn't necessarily lead to a subscription fee (most trade magazine are free, for example).. for example BPA provides audited circulation figures. If their real circulation was higher, they should be able to charge higher advertising rates. Perhaps their business model would better charge a very nominal fee for those who want convenience and access to back issues in an organized manner, and cease discouraging redistribution of the files. Of course it's their IP and their decision to make. IMHO, the problem with hobby electronics magazines is declining interest and readership rather than any issue with copying, and it's not a new problem. --sp =20 --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
