There was an excellent GSM module available from dx.com

One could unsolder PL2303 from it, and connect a PIC to respective RX
and TX pads and use it to send/receive sms, or whatever.
But now it seems discontinued.

Anybody is aware of anything that could replace it, in same price
range? The only one alternative I see is this

but it's bigger and more expensive.


I feel really sad that I ordered only one of those small modems, when
those were still available. Since it is for a remotely located device,
at least two are required, so the prototype can be developed/debugged
further at home, while remote device is already doing it's task.
