As it sounds like you would be building the hardware, I would suggest you l= ook at one of Microchips DSP starter kits, probably a single simple PCB usi= ng a PIC33 series chip, rather than the explorer 16 with appropriate PIM. M= icrochip do have a library of DSP functions for doing auto-level control, e= cho cancel, etc. and I would suggest having a dig around in there for suita= ble code modules.
