Perhaps your a bit behind the times ? The Mplabx IDE with XC8 (16 &
32) compilers are out for Linux ,mac, and windows. They ship with free
licences (as well as a evaluational licence for optimizations). I've
used older versions of SDCC before and wasn't impressed. The XC
compiler aren=92t open source but they are free
