Hmm.  Microchip already fails to compete at the high end.  TI, Atmel, NXP, =
Freescale, Renesas, and ST all have product lines that go from small microc=
ontrollers to high-speed microprocessors capable of supporting massive exte=
rnal memories and running linux or other "real" operating systems.

I wonder if this is a good thing, or a bad thing.  The observant will notic=
e that several of those companies do not compete with Microchip when it com=
es to, say, being profitable=85
