I want to link wirelessly to devices and appliances around the home. ( M2M= =3D=3D> machine to machine ) This would include refrigerators, HVAC units, alarms, washing machine, drye= r, thermostat , water detectors, etc. They would be talking to a $99 android tablet which has USB , WiFi , and Bl= uetooth. =20 In some cases the communications are one way. In others the communication = is two way. The M2M network can be very slow. Even 300 bits per second would be okay. = I expect it to be ASCII based. What would be recommended as the *cheapest approach to retro-fit devices to= communicate ? Infrared ? Sound ? RF ? I would want a really stupid, cheap micro includ= ed that understands serial communications of a UART persuasion and has a fe= w bits of GPIO. Best Gus * cheapest hardware cost as software will be amortized over 100s of units. = 99m2m --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
