The strips can in theory be detached, and, if not damaged, reattached with conductive heat setting glue, onto a new PCB. The devices are attached with= a special hot press (manual lever operated). You can guess what that needs to= do, the heater needs to be set according to the glue type. There is no guarante= e that the strip will survive the process. The glue is only sold in large industrial pots and has a limited shelf life. It costs nothing per device (= a fraction of a gram is needed) but the whole pot will set you back a tidy am= ount of cash (usually 3 figures in $). There should be a way to reattach the strips (assuming they get off in one piece), without glue, using zebra strips used for LCDs. This will require a small fixture to apply pressure all along the length of the contacts, i.e. = some form of tiny clamping system. The result will be a temporary hack but likel= y working for a while... Last time I made such a thing for a prototype I used= =20 thin (1.5mm?) steel axes as 'press jaws' to keep the strips on the zebras,= =20 one on each side of the zebra/board, held together with wire ends twisted=20 around them. The steel shafts need to be hard to stay straight, I think I u= sed drill bit shafts. -- Peter --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
