That's because it's an Arm Cortex core, all of the competitors parts are th=
e same in this respect e.g. ST STM32, Atmel SAM3, NXP LPCxxx

The Cortex M3/4 actually use the Thumb2 instruction set which significantly=
 extends the original Thumb instructions, and gives a good performance/code=
 density trade off.
