Thank = you. >=20 > Best regards, >=20 > Bob Having read the list of posts following Bobs note quoted above, I am a litt= le bemused at the almost invective fuelled response in some of them.=20 Bob did say "Use extreme caution" and pointed at a reason for saying so.=20 But I would also point out that having a high quality meter isn't proof aga= inst stupid use. This string of posts reminded me of a story told to me dur= ing my apprenticeship, of a graduate engineer who decided to use his nice b= right shiny new Avo 8 (arguably the highest quality multimeter available in= the post war years)to measure the impedance of the mains. Quite why he dec= ided to do this is unknown, but he proceeded to turn the switches to the oh= ms range and plugged the probes into the mains. The ensuing explosion was c= ontained within the meter casing, but otherwise the effect was like that in= the pictures of the report Bob linked to above. It seems no-one at uni taught him that the mains supply is about as close t= o a perfect voltage source as you will ever see. --=20 Scanned by iCritical. --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
