Just a quick update for my question: I found some distilled water, heated it up and it quickly removed the polish that had seeped inside of the backlight. However the LCD no longer functions, it appears the controller is not being correctly initialized. I'm assuming the moisture is affecting it, currently it's sitting in a bag or rice in an attempt to dry things out.
