Of not much help, but my favourite high power transistors at the moment are=

the NXP BUJ 3xx range (NPN BUJ 302A). I've been using these as a substitute=
=20
for TIP41's in ballasts. Where the BUJ's become sad they, tend, but not=20
always, to go open circuit (reduces the smoke and fire risk nicely).=20

They are only 4A Ic (there are 6 and 8A ones) but have a Vceo of 1kV which=
=20
is nice.
