I have had 2 Intel DP965-LT classic series motherboards, 2 have been=20 replaced under warranty by Intel which was not bad experience, and have=20 an intermittent one, probably heating related. Sometimes firm sideways =20 pressure on the big heat sink near the CPU, and it will be OK for an=20 hour or 2. Appears that wave soldering missed vias in a 3" circle=20 roughly near the middle of the board. I have twice gone and hand cleaned=20 the bare copper with fine grit nylon (wasn't that tarnished) and hand=20 soldered, leaving smooth shiny solder at the vias, trying to leave the=20 solder tip for more than basic melting, which has helped. When Intel=20 Mb's were made in Ireland they were bulletproof, but these Chinese are junk= ! 3 Questions: 1: Is there any other actions I might do to salvage these boards.=20 Doesn't seem like it's components? 2: New same model boards are available $60, but I feel that would be a=20 waste. There are some reconditioned boards out there a little less=20 costly, don't know where the rehab was done, but could ask, and if not=20 China, might be worth a try. My thinking is there is a very common=20 defect, easily fixed with right equipment, and these could be better=20 than new. Thoughts? 3: These boards are following spec's: socket LGA775, 3ghz, dual core CPU, DDR2, 800mhs FSB, (1) PCI-E16=20 graphics, (3) PCI, (3) PCI-1, (6) USB, (4) USB on board, (1) RS-232, (1)=20 printer port. I have found SuperMicro C2SBC-Q-O @ $160 that looks like it will do the=20 job. What are comments on Supermicro products. They have 1 year=20 warranty, Intel has 3 years. Should I bite the bullet and spend the=20 money. Are there any other products suggested. Thanking in advance for comments. :) --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
