For a certain value of '"proper" [tm] rules of mathematics' that is=20 certainly true. The trouble is in deciding that rules. AFAIK in my 'basic' school (6-12y) I was told that multiplication has=20 precedence over division. In high school (12-18y) I recall them having=20 equal precedence, and to evaluate left-to-right. And the wiser of te=20 teachers discouraged writing anything that could be interpreted=20 differently depending on whether multiplication was to have precedence=20 (over division) or not, for instance by using the horizontal bar instead=20 of the /. APL btw evaluates strictly from right to left! --=20 Wouter van Ooijen -- ------------------------------------------- Van Ooijen Technische Informatica: www.voti.nl consultancy, development, PICmicro products docent Hogeschool van Utrecht: www.voti.nl/hvu C++ on uC blog: http://www.voti.nl/erblog --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
