I have heard that around the world it is predominant the use of central water heating, but here in Brazil perhaps 99.99% of the showers are electric tankless units. Foreigners visiting Brazil frequently show fear of being electrocuted by the showers, but such accidents are very very rare, much less frequent than gas poisoning or fires from gas heaters. In our farm we had several electric showers connected phase+phase without ground and never anybody got shocked.
