Not quite sure what you're asking for- leaded SMT or through-hole? MMBT4401 is the SOT-23 equivalent of the 2N4401. Those thin through-hole packages are/were mostly the province of Japanese makers, so if you really want such a thing, try 2SCxxxx Eg. 2SC1741 (2mm thin) But most of that stuff is probably getting harder and harder to find, so I'd be very reluctant to commit to it in a new design. The TO-92 will be around for a very long time, as will SOT-23.
