Hi all, This might be a bit [OT] instead of [EE], but... An energy company at the local home show is claiming that putting a capacitor on the house lines will save energy, as the inrush of current when starting a motor (think refrigerator compressor) will be handled by the capacitor instead of being drawn from the power grid. To me, this sounds like BS, but I thought I'd ask here, in case one of you knows something I don't. They are not claiming this is a power factor corrector, which is known BS. Thanks!
