Good day to all. I'm about to head out on a two-week road trip and I'm taking my=20 trusty Alienware netbook (M11x R2) with me. I really like this=20 little machine and I purchased it specifically because of its small=20 size, but sometimes I really want to use a larger monitor. Normally, I ship a larger monitor out to the job site ahead of time,=20 along with the rest of the equipment that I need. I didn't do that this ti= me. But I'm looking at the collection of old and / or dead laptops=20 hanging around and thinking to myself that it would be REALLY cool to=20 take a large 17" LCD panel from an older laptop and drive it with a=20 VGA or DVI signal. This would give me a really thin panel that I can=20 just put in my baggage (suitably protected with a matching piece of=20 plywood taped to the front). The 12V to 19V supply would just be the=20 laptop power supply that the panel came from. I'm assuming that the drive signals for modern LCD displays are=20 pretty similar between models and sizes - but that assumption could=20 easily be wrong. Is anyone aware of someone selling a driver board that takes in VGA=20 or DVI and drives an arbitrary TFT LCD panel? Many thanks! dwayne PS - I don't have a hope of building anything for this particular=20 trip. Instead, I'll probably borrow or purchase a larger monitor=20 when I get on site. But I've been thinking about this for quite a=20 while now and thought that I'd see if anyone is aware of a little box=20 or board that does this.
