I got one of the relatively inexpensive USB turntables for Christmas. First time I had heard vinyl in ~20 years. We were all frankly amazed at how well it worked. I don't ever recall records sounding that good, and I thought I used to have a pretty good stereo and turntable. A few notes on these products: Forget the internal speakers; generally worthless. Besides the USB, most have line outputs, not phono; though some may have both (most receivers don't have phono inputs anymore). A lot of them don't play 78's directly. However you can play and capture it to MP3, and the software can convert it to 78. Many don't have dust covers, or the cover is extra. Most will have plastic turntables. After looking at reviews of a lot of them, the AudioTechnica models appeared to be the best for me.
