That is sort of true, but a bit misleading.  Moving from the 8 bit parts
the peripherals are a lot more capable.  It isn't that they are so much
more complicated, but that you have to sort of suspend disbelief.  Some of
them seem awfully close to magic.  The hardest part is getting over the
feeling that you're missing something.

So yeah, you got to pay real close attention to the data sheets.
