I have a Canon G12 for this, and I love it. This is my second G series camera, and the G12 is an amazing machine! You get full control over everything and the unit feels solid and well built. It's a bit more than $200, but money well spent I think. I'd love to shoot with an SLR, but I can't figure out how I'd keep it handy, I already carry way too much gear. The G12 lives in my kit and is always available.
