Maybe these aren't genuine, although initialisation seems OK, so they aren't complete duffers. However, initialisation is done at a much lower speed than later data transfers, so it could be that the low-side driver on DI is just weak/slow at higher speeds Maybe, as I'm not progressing with the MBR issue, I should just try a variety of pull-ups and see what the effect is.
