It might be easier (and not much more expensive) to use the USB host functi= onality to talk to an usb/ethernet dongle. There's the Wiznet chips (at least one of which includes a 8051-like CPU), = and the PIC18F87J60, and IIRC, one of the older (bigger, power hungry, more= expensive) freescale coldfire chips (MCF5223X) has a Phy.
