coming very late to this listing, ( only learning about Pic's )
but i have a question for the overall system

why not use a 12 volt battery with a charger ( i made one=A0 from a compute=
r power supply ) powered from your mains supply.

Use car headlights (50 watts) as your heat source ( easy to see if working =
) temp controlled as you are at the moment or using a thermistor.

Low temp alarm and voltage gone alarm, ( battery should give a few hours ru=
nning if well insulated and door not opened )
Pic can use battery with voltage divider network for its supply.

all items easily sourced and replaced.

Please reply with your thoughts.
