I'm looking to mine the collective knowledge of this group. In Feb. of next year my X-C ski club will be hosting the Eastern Canadian Championships and we would like to have a video recording of the skiers as they cross the finish line to get their bib numbers. This will be a backup to 3 sets of people visually recording the bib numbers as they pass the line. These people look at the bib number on the front and sometimes because the way the bib rides up 9s start to look like 8s and things like that. We would like to have the camera looking from behind for another view. I think that 640x480 resolution with 20 -30 fps would be more than enough. The camera will be mounted about 40m from the 15 m wide finish line so the lens will have to be appropriate. Light will be high to very high. Temperature will be -25 to 10 deg C. It will be mounted outdoors in the elements. We want something that is wireless - wired is too much risk getting ripped out accidentally by someone. It looks like some of the internet security cameras would do the job. Most are not weather proof and will therefore have to be put into an enclosure. They will also require a power supply. The big issue is recording and playback software. We would like to be able to record for about 8 hrs at a time and be able to play back certain sections while still recording. We also want to be able to look at it frame-by-frame. >From the few softwares that come bundled with the cameras that I have look= ed at in detail, both the playback while recording and the frame-by-frame viewing seem to be issues. It seems like the recording needs to be finishe= d before it can be played back. Frame-by-frame doesn't seem that popular. Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing that can point me i= n the right direction for software that would do this and would be compatible with a wireless internet camera?
