The solution for=20 me was not to use them if I can help it. For laptops they sell pcmcia cards that are about $20 and are real=20 serial or real parallel ports. For desktops you can get the PCI cards=20 for about the same price. It really is worth the cost to not have to=20 wonder where the problem is when you are developing.
