I don't want to be mean or anything, but IMHO, that is a very=20 short-sighted view. Look at it this way: the various flavors of Arduino are, for the most=20 part, well designed little self-contained controllers. Just because=20 they are targeted to less experienced users doesn't make them 'not serious'= .. I would have absolutely NO problem including one or more of these in=20 a one-off project, just like I have had NO problem sticking a Basic=20 Stamp into one-off projects. In particular, I plan to use some of=20 the ChipKIT PIC32 Arduino clones for several upcoming projects. My company's customer base is primarily Industrial and they really=20 don't care what components I use when creating products that meet=20 their needs. What they care about is that it works, and will work=20 for a very long time. It doesn't matter whether I use a Basic Stamp, or one of the Parallax=20 Propeller boards, or an Arduino, or one of our custom boards. It=20 just has to do the job it was intended to do. Personally, I think that the whole Basic Stamp / Arduino concept is=20 great. It allows less technical people to concentrate on their=20 project rather than fighting with trying to make a microcontroller do=20 what they want. FWIW - have a look at many of the excellent museums and interpretive=20 centres that dot the landscape all over North America. Many of their=20 exhibits are controlled with Basic Stamps and Arduino boards. dwayne --=20 Dwayne Reid Trinity Electronics Systems Ltd Edmonton, AB, CANADA (780) 489-3199 voice (780) 487-6397 fax www.trinity-electronics.com Custom Electronics Design and Manufacturing --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
