Thanks for everyone's contributions to my original post. The long term=20
solution will probably be a re-scaling of the analog signals from 0-5v=20
to 0-4.096v, with a 4.096v precision reference on the ADC, and all=20
signal sources coming from 5v op amps.

Meanwhile, limiting the clamp current to the barest minimum without=20
disrupting the in-range signal (i.e. using a 2k5 resistor) does not seem=20
to have any strange or unwanted effects during normal operation.
