Maybe the polarity is swapped wrt. what you expected? (on one or both=20
directions)

Note: I have seen hubs that had different polarities on their different=20
slots! When connected to most ethernet cards and hub that would not be=20
noticed because of auto polarity negotiation, but for a device that has=20
fixed polarity it makes all the difference...
