Your transformer output has a 12V zener there now. Also, while your FET does do well with 20F on the gate (its max allowed) it does almost as well at +10V - see fig 7 here http://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data%20Sheets/Fairchild%20PDFs/HU= F75321D3.pdf Unless you are doing something very marginal with it I'd say 10V drive would be quite reasonable.
