Note that some designs hate sinking current, regardless of voltage . So you may want to place a diode from psu output to dummy load and then take load from there. That way the psu cannot sink current when things go aglae. One of my psu's made some nice magic smoke under sinking when I didn't use the diode. (PSU didn't fail fatally, just partially internally incinerated as a rolling protest).
