Dual Use is where it gets interesting. One of my designs uses an FPGA, which DigiKey reported as covered by US=20 export control restrictions. The UK distributor reported it as "DU/ER":=20 Dual Use, Export Restricted. I ended up contacting the BIS (Department for Business, Innovation and=20 Skills) who handle UK Export Licensing, then did two things: * I requested a formal review of the device, and which export regs=20 applied. This took six weeks. * In the meantime, I got an export license which would allow me to=20 export the device to any EU Member State, the USA, Canada, Japan,=20 Australia or New Zealand. This took just over a week. I was eventually told that the final device wasn't covered by UK export=20 control regs, but am still sticking to the rules stated in the export=20 license (which is still in effect). The only thing I have to do is confirm that the final destination=20 address is one of the countries on the export license, and keep some=20 form of proof of the final address (I've been keeping the Post Office=20 receipts, which include the delivery address, and the packing=20 lists/invoices). > I'm curious. Maybe someone else on the list can clarify. Doesn't matter what I=20 order, it can be a box of connectors or capacitors, and they'll still ask. Mouser never ask. Or they've never asked me... they probably would if I=20 ordered FPGAs from them (which I would, if they stocked the Altera=20 Cyclone II 2C8). Farnell tell you if something's export-controlled (the faster chips in=20 the Xilinx XC9500XL CPLD series are, because their I/O toggle rate is=20 over 100MHz). You have to check the Packing List though, it's not=20 published on the website (but they do give you the export-control codes=20 so you can look it up on SPIRE). If it wasn't for the huge gulf in price between Farnell and DigiKey, I'd=20 just go to Farnell... the effort I have to go through to get a DigiKey=20 order authorised makes any order less than =A3200 or so a total waste of=20 time for me. --=20 Phil. piclist@philpem.me.uk http://www.philpem.me.uk/ --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
