Not quite what you're asking, but I use "Deoxit" (from Caig)=20
to get the gunge off the terminals and they seem to perform=20
as they should afterwards.  It apparently leaves a protective=20
coating, which means I don't worry about the plating (nickel,=20
probably) that was there before.
