You may be thinking of the gotcha with TV EHT rectifiers, which used a mult=
iplier diode string to limit the volts on the EHT transformer, and work wit=
hin the reverse voltage limits of available rectifiers. These used a 5x mul=
tiplier, but because the waveform was asymmetrical, with a very low duty cy=
cle, the actual voltage multiplication achieved is only 3x.
