We designed a device which had two PICs that ran off the same crystal. In=20 retrospect, it was a mistake, but not for the reasons you mention. The firs= t=20 problem was that one of the ICs could be unpowered during normal operation,= =20 and load down the clock line so the crystal would stop oscillating (we adde= d=20 a series resistor as a hack to make it work). The second problem was that=20 the clock turned out to be too slow for our purposes, so we had to spend=20 much more time tweaking the code than would have been the case if we had a= =20 faster crystal.
