With those types of numbers, I wouldn't be looking at individual cells.
Wiring them all together is a real PITA.
Consider the packs made for RC cars. The typical 9.6V pack (8xAA) can often
be found for less than $10, and the 7.2V pack (6x sub C) for about $15.
