I learnt C++  *before* I did much C. 1988 in a place developing C++=20
pre-processors for C compilers. I'd done Occam, Modula-2, Pascal and=20
Forth previously. I was the fact that I had hardly looked at C and was=20
experienced at Modula-2 that oddly got me the job.

AT&T "broke" C++ by insistence on backward compatibility with C.
